- 1 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
- 2 teaspoons real vanilla extract or clear vanilla
- 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/4 cup heavy cream
In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment or a large mixing bowl, beat butter until light and fluffy, approximately 2 minutes.
Add the vanilla and salt and then powdered sugar one cup at a time until blended. Mixture will be thick.
Pour in the cream and beat until it becomes light and fluffy, approximately 4 minutes.
Add desired food coloring. Gel works best to not change the consistency.
