Classic Buttercream Frosting

A classic frosting perfect for cakes, cookies or just about anything, this EASY Buttercream Frosting is made with only 5 ingredients!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons real vanilla extract or clear vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  • In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment or a large mixing bowl, beat butter until light and fluffy, approximately 2 minutes.
  • Add the vanilla and salt and then powdered sugar one cup at a time until blended. Mixture will be thick.
  • Pour in the cream and beat until it becomes light and fluffy, approximately 4 minutes.
  • Add desired food coloring. Gel works best to not change the consistency.
